Resources for Universal Design for Learning

This post is to introduce the various resources available for educators to learn about and to properly implement Universal Design for Learning.  Universal Design for Learning is not a new concept for me.  I have been required to create lesson plans and write IEP’s that include UDL’s for some of my special education classes at Cabrini.  Also, I have used various UDL’s within my current school district.  I work with students that use communication devices, pencil grips, slant boards, PEC cards, and various i-Pad applications.  These accommodations help students with special needs participate actively in the school environment and make learning accessible for everyone.

The website http://udtechtoolkit.wikispaces.com is a great resource for teachers, as well as, parents to use in order to assist all types of learners.  The website is divided into different areas such as study skills tools, literacy tools, writing tools, and math tools, etc.  The different tools contain several links to websites that focus on the specific area of need.  I intend to use this resource to enhance my knowledge of Universal Design for Learning.

  1. Diana,

Thanks for sharing your insight about your experience using universal design. I think sometimes we think accommodations are only for students who have an IEP, but sometimes its important to remember that we can use these tools if they benefit more than one learner. Your comment reminded me of this!
