Adaptive keyboards are commercial
keyboards that have been modified to allow users with special needs
accessibility to their computer system.
Modifications include bright colored keyboards, easy-to-read labels,
QWERTY or ABC layouts, and customized layouts.
During my research, I found Intellikeys which is an example of an
adapted keyboard. Intellikeys provides
access for anyone with physical, visual, or cognitive disabilities who has
difficulty using a standard keyboard. In
combination with its many overlays, it is the most flexible alternative
keyboard available, providing individualized support for young students,
struggling learners, and ESL students.
